Granular activated chloramine reduction carbon filter. Used for the reduction and removal of chlorine and chloramine from mains tap water. The Chloramine PLUS-T water filter cartridges are a big leap forward in carbon production technology with higher chloramine reduction than any other of our carbon filter range. This catalytic carbon is produced for Vyair in a state of art production facility of a large carbon manufacturer in Taiwan.

Chlorine has been used to disinfect municipal and other water supplies for generations. It is a well-established, practical treatment method for large volumes of water. When used in this way, chlorine reacts with other organic substances in the water to form chloramine, a compound of ammonia and chlorine. Chloramine, too, acts as a disinfectant, and is often used in water treatment instead of chlorine since it is less likely to react with other organic compounds in the water. Like chlorine, chloramine controls bacterial growth in water supplies, treatment facilities and distribution systems. But chloramine can also act as a pollutant, reacting with organic nitrogen to form other harmful compounds. Generally, chloramines removal improves the taste and odour of drinking water, however, long-term exposure to these harmful by-products of disinfection has been linked to increased risk of cancer and birth delivery problems. Further, high chloramine levels in swimming pools account for most complaints of eye irritation.
This listing is for a 10" GAC chlorine reduction carbon filter, we also can offer 10" & 20" Jumbo GAC filters.

Technical Specifications

  • Ash: 3% max
  • Surface area: 1,050 m2/g
  • pH: 7 - 9
  • Particle size: 12 x 40

Chlorine removal

  • Reduction capacity: 2 ppm - less than 0.02 ppm
  • Flow rate: 4.0 litres per minute
  • Total capacity before chlorine output rises above 0.02ppm 21,000 litres. This is an exacting test, and most major brands test until the chlorine level on output raises to 0.5 ppm
Chloramine removal capacity = around 10,000 litres, based on 3 ppm deducing to 0.5ppm.
Monochloramine capacity of a standard activated carb on of similar activity level = 25mg/g (average). This carbon has 6x more efficiency (600%).

Please note that the ASM reference numbers above refer to international accepted tests for carbon provided by ASM International.
